CREATING FISH REFUGES AT NOSTERFIELD NATURE RESERVE
For the next community work day we’ll be making fish refuges from the waste cuttings created by willow coppicing on the silt lagoons. The refuges will eventually be taken to the quarry site and sunk into the lakes and reedbed lagoons to create areas where small fish can thrive. This should result in an increased abundance of larger fish which could then feed bittern or osprey! Making the waste material into these refuges also decreases the amount of material we have to burn, reducing carbon emissions.
We’ll be meeting at the Nosterfield Nature Reserve main reserve car park at 10:00am (see address & link below). Please walk if possible.
