We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to assist with the delivery of our two-and-a-half-year National Lottery Heritage Fund project ‘Ure Connected – Engaging People with Nature in the Lower Ure Valley’.

The project’s aim is to increase capacity for nature conservation and restoration on undermanaged Priority Habitats in the area while also increasing engagement with the local community.

Based primarily at Nosterfield Nature Reserve, you will carry out a variety of tasks, taking in aspects of both practical conservation and community engagement. This will include habitat management, ecological surveying and maintenance of reserve infrastructure and hides as well as helping to run a programme of events for adults & families, educational sessions for school children and community workdays. You will also work alongside and lead volunteers, assist with updating interpretation and contribute to our online presence.

You will gain a wide range of valuable skills and is an ideal position for those looking to start a career in conservation. You will learn the practical techniques used in the creation and maintenance of valuable habitats. You will also be given training and certified qualifications in the use of machinery and equipment (including brushcutter & chainsaw). You will be able to develop communication and engagement skills by assisting the Community Engagement Officer with events and education.

A passion for nature conservation and a strong desire to learn are essential, along with good communication, organisational and IT skills. You must also have a driving license and be able to take up weekend / flexible working hours at particular times of year.

 

ROLE DETAILS

Closing date: 12/05/2024

Interview date: Interviews will take place during the week commencing 20/05/2024

Wage: £11.44 per hour

Annual leave allowance: 4 weeks plus bank holidays (pro rata).

Commitment: 8-months part-time (4 days per week)

Start date: 02/07/2024

Working hours: 30 hours per week. Working days will usually be Tuesday to Friday but some weekend days will be required to help with events and community workdays.

Location: Nosterfield Nature Reserve, Nosterfield Quarry, Bedale, North Yorkshire, DL8 2QZ, occasional home working may be required.

Essential: 18+, full driving license and access to personal transport.

Additional information: Mileage in addition to the normal journey from home to the reserve will be paid at a rate of 45p per mile.
