Moth Morning at Nosterfield Nature Reserve

Take a closer look into the fascinating world of moths - All ages welcome!

Traps will be set overnight to be opened at 8am with Yorkshire county moth recorder, Charlie Fletcher.

Nosterfield Nature Reserve and Nosterfield Quarry offer a mosaic of different habitats that benefit a diversity of moth species including several stunning hawk-moths. As the traps are emptied, you will have the chance to take a closer look at these much underrated insects, many of which are very rarely seen by day.

As well as being a great way to get a close up view of these beautiful insects, moth trapping is vital for conservation. Many moths are are our nocturnal pollinators and play an important role in ecosystems. They are indicators of changes in the climate and habitats. Once captured and recorded all the moths are safely released back to the wild.
